Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
What is EMDR
EMDR is a powerful, well-researched type of therapy proven effective to lessen symptoms association with trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, anxiety, addictions, phobia’s and other concerns associated with difficult memories from past experiences.
How does EMDR work?
EMDR helps us process - digest - make-sense - of challenging memories and releases false or negative beliefs that we may hold in our bodies and nervous system. Together with the therapist, touch-stone memories or feelings are identified. These memories, beliefs, and sensations are revisited in a safe, calm environment while engaging in Bilateral Stimulation (such as vibrations, sounds, or visual cues) that occurs in a moving side-to-side pattern. Bilateral stimulation can be moving the eyes back and forth, holding paddles that buzz in your palms or listening to sounds that play on one-side then the other.
With EMDR, we believe that everyone has a natural ability to heal themselves. EMDR helps the brain and the body reorganized difficult experiences and sensations and make them less powerful in our lives. People can gain different insights into their past experiences that can lead them to feel empowered. Many people have said EMDR has helped them positively shift their beliefs about themselves, their lives, and their history.
What is the success rate for emdr?
While everyone’s experience with EMDR is different, research has demonstrated EMDR is a highly effective treatment for trauma as well as other concerns and can rapidly decrease negative emotions, the vividness of disturbing memories and relieve somatic complaints associated with negative life events (Shapiro, 2014)
